EXCERPTS

Unionized child care workers with the St. Joseph's Early Childhood Centres in Halifax have voted strongly in favour of strike action.

The members of CUPE Local 38-45 took the step Wednesday night, as a show of support for their negotiating committee.

President Lisa Stewart says bargaining to date has been an exercise in futility.

She says her members are the lowest paid child care group in the area.

Both parties are scheduled to meet with a Conciliator from the Department of Labour, to make a final try at reaching a negotiated settlement.
