EXCERPTS

The federal Liberals will take Prime Minister Stephen Harper to task over child care when Parliament resumes on April 3.

Opposition leader Bill Graham said today that he hopes the Bloc Quebecois and New Democrats will support them in rejecting the Conservative day-care plan.

"The Bloc [Québécois] will be in the position of having said they intend to support the government because they don't wish to see it fall for their own political reasons," Graham told reporters in Ottawa Tuesday.

"But they also, I believe, have an obligation to set out a policy with respect to child care which is consistent with their own values."

Last week, the Conservatives announced they would be scrapping the $5 billion worth of child-care agreements that the Liberals signed with several provinces before the election.

Alberta Premier Ralph Klein said he agrees with Harper's child-care policy.

He said the only difference is that parents, not the province, will get the money, the Edmonton Journal reported.
