EXCERPTS

The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board will begin work to retrofit another three elementary schools to add 45 new child care spaces.

Superintendent of Business Mario Iatonna says $35,000 will be spent at the schools, on things like monitoring systems and a new washroom.

"The board's been given $2-million to create over 300 spaces. This year we're going to focus on three schools: St. Pius, Holy Cross and St. Gabriel. We're still looking at other schools for phase three next year."

The school board hopes that this program will help to increase enrolment, as Iatonna explains parents can make the seamless transition from child care to junior kindergarten at the retrofitted schools.
