Re: Guaranteed Income Won’t Help Women, Opinion, April 20
This article highlights an issue that has mainly been skirted by all levels of government. There has been lip service for years but little action. I refer to the statement about research showing that “countries that want to take advantage of all the talents of all adults in their labour forces actively prioritize child-care funding.”
The fact that child care is a major economic issue has never been acknowledged. The lack of available or affordable child care is the prime deterrent for women from entering or re-entering the workforce, unless they are in an income bracket that can afford it. Hence the loss of a valuable resource of education and skills.
The sooner governments and businesses realize this and act on it, the sooner we can make progress on a major economic issue.
