A $2-million addition to Central Public School will provide 64 new child care spaces in the city.

The Grand Erie District School Board has received approval from the province to release a tender for a four-room addition to the George Street school.

“This will provide much-needed child care in the community and create new opportunities for connection with the school,” said Greg Anderson, chair of the Grand Erie board.

The addition is part of the province’s capital investment program to support families with affordable child care,” said Will Bouma, MPP for Brantford-Brant.

Approval for this addition is great news for our community,” said Bouma. “It will provide opportunities and convenience for families, as well as a quality learning environment for the children of Brantford.”

The Ontario government announced in this year’s budget that, over the next 10 years, it is investing nearly $13 billion in capital grants to improve schools. The money can be used to replace aging heating and air conditioning systems, repair roofs and windows and install elevators and ramps.

The ministry is accepting applications from school boards for their Top 10 school-based capital priorities for funding consideration, as well as support for the expansion of child care spaces.
