Project description: The Care Architecture project is a cross-national comparison of care packages for children and older people in 8 European countries. The research program suggests alternative ways to evaluate and measure welfare state designs and outcomes. The project has three main aims: - We want to address welfare variation on an aggregate level, in order to both contribute to the care regime debate, but also in order to evaluate more mainstream categorization of welfare states, which lack the service dimension. Here we will also analyze our data on the regional level, using a distinction of urban/rural area, which allows us to evaluate the within country variation in provision of care, in values of care and in policies and practices. - By looking at how different stylised family types fare, in theory and in real outcomes, we will be able to address what are the institutional constraints and dynamics of the welfare set-ups. - Finally, we want to analyse the linkage between the institutional design of the care benefits and care cultures in terms of care attitudes and practises. The programme is composed of six sub-projects that look at separate but closely interwoven areas of care. The project is situated at the Danish National Institute of Social Research, and takes place from January 2005-May 2007.
