Overview
The wage grid sets a minimum standard amount that facilities must pay employees. It is intended to support recruitment and retention of centre-based employees.

Minimum hourly rates of pay are calculated based on the community the employee lives in, their position, years of experience, Indigenous knowledge and northern experience.

Available funding
The GNWT provides licensed centre-based facilities with Dedicated Funding to support the implementation of the wage grid. The wage grid consists of four zones, each designed to accommodate the variations in the cost of living throughout the region.

Employees with a recognized certificate, diploma, or degree related to early childhood development are eligible for an hourly increase of $0.25, $2.50, or $5, respectively.
