Government consultations on child care

In September, the Ontario government announced a commitment to expand child care for 0-4 years olds in Ontario by 100,000 spaces – doubling existing spaces over 5 years. At the same time, the federal and provincial governments are negotiating a framework on early learning and child care.

In this context, the Ministry of Education is holding public town hall meetings in selected communities around Ontario. These are public sessions where you can have your say. You do not need to be an expert on child care policy. This is the place to share your experience and call for a quality early learning and child care system that all families can afford and trust.

Date: January 16th, 2017
Time: 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Location: Shaw Centre, 55 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, ON, K1N 9J2

How affordable are child care services in Toronto, and what difference does affordability make?

A new study finds that licensed child care is affordable for only 25% of families in Toronto. Access to licensed child care is very sensitive to affordability, and so is parental employment many families would prefer licensed care, but cannot currently afford it. Dr. Gordon Cleveland, Associate Professor Emeritus, Department of Management, University of Toronto Scarborough presents the findings.
