It's the tenth anniversary of Telling Tales Out of School, and this year we're holding it in a brand new space! We hope you can join us on Monday, June 3, at Daniels Spectrum, the wonderful new arts centre in Regent Park.

The evening will feature an array of award-winning authors, actors, musicians and student performers, including:

Juno award-winning band Sloan
Comedian Caroline Rhea
Award-winning author Camilla Gibb
Governor General's Award winning author David Bezmozgis
From CBC's Mr. D, Naomi Snieckus
Juno award-winner Melanie Doane with Toronto students on ukulele
From Mirvish Productions' The Wizard of Oz, and CBC's Road to Avonlea, Cedric Smith

All proceeds help People for Education protect the arts, ESL, libraries, and special education in Ontario public schools.

Telling Tales Out of School, People for Education's Annual Gala Benefit is both a celebration of public education and a fundraiser for People for Education. Over the years, Telling Tales has attracted many of Toronto's political, community, and business leaders as audience members, as well as an amazing roster of Canadian authors, actors and musicians.

Every dollar raised at Telling Tales Out of School helps People for Education conduct and publicize its research, provide support to parents and school communities, and work to support all aspects of a strong education system including things like the arts in schools, and special education and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.

Each session is structured with a framework of collaboration and reflective practice. The sessions will have facilitated provocations, and will allow time for sharing, reflection, identification of next steps and simple goal setting.

Session 1: Children as Constructors of Learning

Facilitated by Gretchen Reynolds, Algonquin College & Joanne Saunders, Acorn Early Learning Centre

This session will give participants an opportunity to discuss and share their experiences and perspectives in regards to the implementation of projects, emergent curriculum and using the environment as an 'educator'. Topics could extend to outdoor environments and curriculum, documentation and the implementation of early learning frameworks.

Session 2: Technology in Early Learning

Facilitated by Meagan Bell, Kanata Research Park Family Centre

This session will be an opportunity for participants to discuss how technology (emails, computers, cameras, internet, websites, blogs, webcams, smart boards, tablets, webinars, etc.) is being used in early learning settings in our community, and abroad. Participants can also examine ways in which technology is used to connect children and families to the program and their larger communities as well. This session is for individuals with an interest in technology, at all levels- there is no experience needed.

Workshop 3: Early Childhood Educators as Learners

Facilitated by Leslie Kopf Johnson, Algonquin College & Lisa Lalonde, Kanata Research Park Family Centre.

This session is an opportunity for participants to explore how we as ECE's can extend our own professionalism-in both traditional and non-traditional ways. Discussions surrounding different tools (E-portfolios, webinars, mentoring, community ambassadors, postgraduate certificates, degrees, international opportunities) as well as examining the difference of in house professional development versus external sources professional development.

Workshop 4: Developing a Positive Organizational Climate & Culture

Facilitated by Kathy Knight Robinson, Andrew Fleck Child Care Services & Karen Cole Thrasher, Global Child Care Services

This session is an opportunity for participants to discuss different ways they can contribute to the development of a positive organizational climate in their own early learning environments. Exploring the idea of collaborative culture will be a focus as the participants discuss ways we can work together to develop this as a broader early learning system in our community.
